Local Activities
The Ochil Hills, with Dumyat towering at 1373 ft or 418m, provides a number of routes to ascend for walkers of the faint hearted kind, or the not so faint hearted kind! An easier route involves around 260m of climb on the 2km walk to the top, starting from above Stirling University. The view is breathtaking and allows vistas over the whole of Stirlingshire and the meandering Forth River and Valley.
Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park offers spectacular scenery, with Ben Lomond towering over the largest expanse of freshwater in the United Kingdom and the whole Park encompassing some 720 sq miles. Climbing, Walking and Mountain Biking is available here, as well as water sports and shopping at Loch Lomond Shores. Callander and Aberfoyle are also worth a visit and offer a wealth of things to do.
The Forth & Clyde Canal, is literally only a few yards away, and you can cycle, kayak or walk along its length and breadth should you have the will or indeed inclination, stretching 65 miles betweeen Glasgow and Edinburgh. Castlecary is of course the perfect 'watering hole'. Scotland’s Safari Park is also a short drive away and provides a great day out for all the family.
There are great walks also around the Cumbernauld area as well as outdoor pursuits such as off-road driving, Clay Pigeon Shooting and Fishing all very close by, again, offering a wealth of things to do.
With shopping, helicopter rides, golf, great walking and cycling, on our doorstep, makes Castlecary House Hotel the perfect place to enjoy short breaks and time with family and friends.
